How to Prepare for State Accounts Services?

About Indian Audit and Accounts Service (IA&AS) and State Accounts Services (SAS)
Indian Audit and Accounts Service (IA&AS) and State Accounts Services (SAS) is an Indian Central Government service and state government service respectively, independent and autonomous in perspective of control as it got freedom from any influence from any executive authority, under the Comptroller and Auditor General of India. The officers of the Indian and State Audit and Accounts Service serve in an audit managerial capacity, in the Indian Audit and Accounts Department. IA&AS is responsible for auditing the accounts of the Union and State governments and public sector organizations, and for maintaining the accounts of State governments.
The service can be divided into officers looking after accounting and audit issues pertaining to the Union government and the State governments, and those manning the department's headquarters. The state accounts and audit offices are headed by Accountants General or Principal Accountants General. They are functionally equivalent; only the designations vary. Major states have three Principal Accountants General (PAsG) or Accountants General (AsG), each heading Accounts and Entitlement (i.e., compiling state accounts, maintaining pension accounts, loan accounts, etc.), General and Social Sector Audit (GSSA) or Economic and Revenue Sector Audit (ERSA).

How to Apply for State Accounts Services?
State accounts service requirement varies state wise as they have different modes of selection. There are states conducting examination and level of exam is state civil service but the pattern is purely on the basis of commerce and accounting. Number of posts, classification and scale of pay for State Accounts Services, Method of recruitment for State Accounts Services, age limit and other qualifications etc varies state to state. For example in Punjab State Accounts Services there is no bar on age limit and education qualification is Graduation but there candidates should be in Government service for at least four years.
